My philosophy: Expect the worst and be constantly pleasantly surprised. Optimists expect the best and are constantly disappointed. Next time someone says "cheer up, it could be worse!" tell them you're expecting a disaster and to f off.
Pessimists are the ones who live longest. If 'it' all goes belly-up then you can say 'I knew it would', grumble sweetly, as opposed to smiling and like Victor Meldrew just get on with it.
